HBO

The White Lotus: The second season of this critically acclaimed (and 10 Emmy-winning) HBO original comedy-drama series may see a change of scenery, this time set in Sicily after a first season set in Hawaii. But it retains its primary focus, once again following the challenges, struggles and triumphs of guests and staff at the fictional White Lotus luxury resort chain. Continuing her search for inner peace after her mother’s passing, troubled guest Tanya McQuoid (played by Jennifer Coolidge of “American Pie” fame) returns for a second season, bringing her husband and her young assistant along to Italy for what is sure to be another wild ride.

(New episodes appear on HBO and HBO Latino on Sundays at 9 p.m. ET. Otherwise, episodes appear at various times throughout the free preview period on HBO, HBO2, HBO Signature and HBO Latino. Visit hbo.com to see the full schedule.)

Avenue 5: Set four decades into the future, this HBO original science-fiction comedy series stars British actor Hugh Laurie (of “House” fame) as the captain of an interstellar cruise craft named the Avenue 5. Unfortunately for the space tourists on board, the trip through outer space proves to be no luxury vacation, as unexpected troubles leave them far off course, critically low on supplies and years away from Earth. But fortunately for viewers, the ill-fated journey provides hilarity at every turn.

(New episodes appear on HBO and HBO Latino on Mondays at 10 p.m. ET. Otherwise, episodes appear at various times throughout the free preview period on HBO, HBO2, HBO Signature and HBO Latino. Visit hbo.com to see the full schedule.)

Shaq: This documentary series chronicles the rise to superstardom of beloved American sports personality and larger-than-life NBA superstar Shaquille O’Neal. In-person interviews with Shaq allow viewers to learn more from the legend himself about not only his ascent and dominance on the court, where he claimed multiple NBA titles and league MVP honors, but also his upbringing and personal life off the hardwood.

CINEMAX

A Happening of Monumental Proportions: This 2017 comedic crime drama follows the plight of staff and administrators at an L.A. elementary school as they try to conceal a shocking sight: the groundskeeper’s dead body. To make matters worse, the gruesome discovery is made on Career Day, when the campus is packed with students and parents. This film’s star-studded cast includes recognizable names like Allison Janney, Jennifer Garner, Common, Rob Riggle, Katie Holmes and Keanu Reeves.

(Appears on CINEMAX and CINEMÁX on Wednesday, Nov. 23, at 10:21 a.m. ET, and on OUTER MAX on Friday, Nov. 25, at 11:40 a.m. ET, and Tuesday, Nov. 29, at 1:34 a.m. ET.)

The Command: This thrilling 2018 drama follows the tense events that come in the wake of an accidental torpedo explosion on the Russian submarine Kursk in the Barents Sea north of eastern Russia. After several sailors are killed in the blast and the remaining crew is left trapped in the sub on the ocean floor, the Russian government tries to keep the disaster a secret, drastically slowing critical rescue efforts. Suspense ensues as the sailors’ families struggle to get answers from the Russian government, and foreign fleets try to join in the attempts to save the trapped men.

(Appears on CINEMAX and CINEMÁX on Friday, Nov. 25, at 6:01 p.m. ET.)

Aftermath: Arnold Schwarzenegger stars in this 2017 drama based on a true story.
